5 things you didnt know about John Clark from the Ryanverse

Tom Clancy's Without Remorse is all set to release on Amazon Prime Video on the 30th of April this year. The action thriller film which is directed by Stefano Sollima and based on Tom Clancy's 1993 novel of the same name, stars actor Michael B Jordan in the lead role. This will be Jordan's return to the action universe post his role as Killmonger in Black Panther. Besides Jordan, the film also stars Jamie Bell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Colman Domingo and Luke Mitchell. The trailer for Without Remorse has already set the expectations high about Jordan portraying John Clark and set the action nerds buzzing. While we all know Clark is a former US Navy SEAL, here are few things you may not know about Clark from the books.

• John Clark has had three important relationships in his life. His first was with Patricia aka Tish whom he married. Tish died in a car accident. Clark then fell in love with Pamela Madden who was later raped and killed. In the film, however, Madden is pregnant when she is killed. Madden is the one who makes a major appearance in Without Remorse. Later on, Clark fell in love with and married Sandra O' Toole and had two daughters with her, Patricia Doris and Margaret Pamela.

• While Jack Ryan is undoubtedly the most famous character created by Tom Clancy, the author has described Clark as sort of a "dark side" to Jack Ryan and "more inclined to take physical action than Jack is". We guess this is why the Without Remorse movie is filled with high-octane action and unbelievable stunts.

• While Clark first made an appearance in 1987 with The Cardinal of the Kremlin, his origin story was only detailed much later with Without Remorse which released in 1993. This is what the Michael B Jordan movie is focusing on.

• In the books, John Clark may have started out as a Navy SEAL but he's held many different posts in his life - he worked with the CIA as an operations officer, became Jack Ryan's driver and bodyguard, served as director of Rainbow, a multinational counterterrorism unit. After retirement, he worked at The Campus which was created by Jack Ryan after he was elected President. The Campus is an off-the-books intelligence organisation.

In the book, John Clark has one distinguishing feature - a tiny tattoo of a red seal on his forearm. It remains to be seen what the makers of Without Remorse do with this particular feature or if they have their unique take on Clark.
