Massa : Italian: habitational name from any of various places called Massa for example Massa Lubrense or Massa di Somma both in Naples province or Masse d'Albe in Aquila all named from medieval Latin massa ‘farm estate’ (from Latin massa ‘mass lump pile’ Greek maza). This surname is also found in southern France (see Massey 5).
